A Petra report published on 14 October 2026, ahead of White Cane Day, highlighted the need for urban infrastructure that supports safe and independent travel for people with visual impairments in Jordan.

It discussed tactile paths, signs, audible public-transport announcements and accessible buildings. Technology cannot by itself compensate for streets and facilities that remain unsafe or obstructed.

The report also described a smart-cane prototype being developed by students at the University of Jordan, including ideas for location guidance and voice-based bus recognition. The project remains in development. It should not be described as a product already available for sale or a solution with proven performance in general public use.
