Around 900 families in Berehale, Ethiopia's Afar region, have received household water connections, UNICEF reported on October 15. Network expansion is continuing.
PROSPECTS-supported improvements include two reservoirs, rehabilitated boreholes, wider distribution pipes and solar panels to reduce disruption from power cuts.
The report describes reduced time and physical effort for women and girls collecting water. The local utility uses customer payments for maintenance and operating costs, while more households await connection.
