New Zealand launched an approved code of practice on October 16 to clarify health and safety responsibilities on residential building sites. It is due to take effect on April 1, 2027.
The code addresses clients, contractors and workers, particularly where several businesses share a site. The government said it clarifies existing duties. Possible additional legal protection from following the code would require later consultation and reapproval, so that protection should not be treated as already in force.
