UNICEF reported on October 12 that at least 139 people, including 15 children, had died after a migrant boat capsized off Djibouti late the previous week. More than 300 people had been aboard, with others still missing when the statement was issued.

The agency urged safer movement for children and families and continued cooperation with Djibouti’s government. The toll is attributed to that dated statement, not presented as a final update.
