Arab Parliament selects leadership and foreign-affairs chair

The Arab Parliament selected Saad Al Otaibi as president by acclamation, while Mubarak Al Kuwari became chair of its foreign affairs, political and national-security committee, QNA reported on October 24. Proceedings took place at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

The presidency and committee chair are separate posts, not conflicting accounts of one election. The procedural session precedes preparatory meetings and a new parliamentary session. Selecting officeholders does not itself establish a joint foreign policy or an executive decision binding the member states.
