Arab experts review refugee convention draft before justice ministers’ meeting

Arab experts and ministry representatives began reviewing a draft convention on refugee conditions in Cairo, Qatar News Agency reported on 27 October. They aim to address states’ comments before submitting results to justice ministers meeting in Algeria in November.

This is negotiation over a text, not the entry into force of a new convention. The work follows a request for further study. Agreed provisions and subsequent ministerial decisions are the next milestones; the expert meeting alone does not establish changes to refugees’ rights or residence procedures.
