Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong welcomed Iraq's decision to let Robert Pether leave the country in an October 12 statement, saying he could now reunite with his family.
Wong said he had spent more than four years in prison before facing travel restrictions. She credited years of diplomatic advocacy and consular assistance, and thanked Irish authorities for their cooperation.
