The EU urged the United States to reverse announced sanctions against the International Criminal Court in an October 10 statement reaffirming support for the court's independence and those working with it.

It welcomed Washington's willingness to discuss concerns with Rome Statute parties and noted the delayed start of the latest measures as an opportunity for diplomacy. The statement stressed that the court should operate free from external pressure.
