France and Germany announced a common approach to Europe's car industry on October 16, combining lower emissions with support for developing and manufacturing electric vehicles in Europe.
The proposal includes regulatory flexibility reflecting market and technological conditions, alongside incentives for investment, research and resilient supply chains. Both governments said they would work with European partners towards an agreement. The statement sets out a negotiating approach rather than announcing a completed EU law.
