Gaza bakers’ association head Abdel Nasser al Ajrami warned that warehouse flour stocks were exhausted and remaining bakeries faced closure, in a WAFA interview on 22 October.
He said seven of twenty bakeries were still operating and linked shortages to entry restrictions. He distinguished depleted commercial stocks from World Food Programme flour, so the statement should not be read as claiming every household has none.
Why commercial flour differs from humanitarian supplies
WFP explained on 5 May 2026 that some bread support combined flour and fuel, while another arrangement supported fuel for bakeries buying flour commercially. These different supply channels help explain why commercial bakeries can face closure even when a separate aid channel continues. The May bakery figures are not an October operating count; the association’s warning concerns a particular stock situation and reporting period. WFP.
