UN warns of expanding cholera outbreak in DR Congo
The reported suspected cases cover January 2025 through September 2026, not only the current year.

The World Health Organization warned that cholera was continuing to spread in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a UN update dated 14 October 2026. The warning comes alongside efforts to respond to Ebola.
The update reported more than 125,000 suspected cholera cases and 3,644 deaths suspected to be associated with the disease between January 2025 and the end of September 2026. The reporting period spans more than a year and does not refer solely to this week or to 2026.
Both the time period and the classification of cases as suspected matter when interpreting these figures. This article presents the surveillance information attributed to the health agency without reclassifying it as laboratory-confirmed data or adding unpublished estimates.
