Lebanon and UNESCO continue work to renew public libraries
A visit to Sin el Fil highlighted equipment, books and services tailored to local needs.

Lebanon's Ministry of Culture and UNESCO are continuing to rehabilitate public libraries and strengthen their community role, according to a statement published on 14 October 2026. The update included Culture Minister Ghassan Salamé's visit to the Sin el Fil library.
The visit involved reviewing needs, providing books, stationery and equipment, and signing a memorandum of understanding with the municipality. The work forms part of a library-network rehabilitation project supported by partners including Norway's embassy.
The approach considers each library's needs rather than applying identical equipment packages everywhere. Future work aims to improve spaces and services and attract children and young people, building on earlier training for library workers.
