Palestinian Water Authority head Ziad al-Mimi presented sector needs to Arab water ministers in Cairo, WAFA reported on 26 October 2026. He estimated Gaza water and sanitation damage at approximately $1.5 billion and reconstruction needs at approximately $2.9 billion.

The figures measure different things: damage versus recovery and rebuilding requirements. His plan moves from urgent repairs and restoring facilities to recovery and more resilient infrastructure. The estimates are attributed to the authority; a request for Arab financing does not establish that funds have been approved or disbursed.
