The Jerusalem governorate warned about excavation and tunnelling beneath Silwan, particularly Wadi Hilweh, in a WAFA report published on October 25. It cited accounts of cracks and damage to homes and linked the work to efforts to reshape the area’s historical narrative.

The statement raises two different questions: building safety and the presentation of archaeological history. The former requires engineering inspection; the latter involves historical and political disagreement. The dispatch conveys the governorate’s position without an independent structural study or a response from the operators. Its warning should therefore not be read as an established engineering finding for every nearby home.
