An October UNRIC report describes Syrian refugee and internally displaced returns following political and security changes, alongside continuing humanitarian needs. It draws on UNHCR and other UN information.

Returns from abroad and returns by internally displaced people are different categories, not one refugee count. Returning also does not automatically establish habitable housing or functioning services. The report identifies documentation, livelihoods and explosive-remnant risks among the challenges. These affect whether return can be sustained, beyond the initial journey home.
