Turkish parliamentary committee approves bill to ratify Mecca defence pact

Turkey’s parliamentary foreign affairs committee approved a bill consenting to ratification of the Mecca defence pact with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Anadolu reported on 27 October. Deputy Foreign Minister Levent Gümrükçü answered lawmakers’ questions before the vote.

Committee approval advances the bill toward the full parliamentary assembly; it does not itself announce completion of every ratification step. The pact was signed in August to support deterrence and mutual defence. Signature, committee approval and the next parliamentary stage are distinct milestones.
