WFP and FAO project that 19.2 million people in Afghanistan could face high acute food insecurity during the November–April lean season, around 38% of the population.

The October 15 assessment estimates that five million could reach emergency levels. Food and transport costs, limited employment and reduced assistance are squeezing household access to food.

These are projections for the coming season, rather than a final count of current cases. The agencies call for urgent food and agricultural support.
