Robin Geiss, director of the UN Institute for Disarmament Research, warned about expanding military uses of artificial intelligence, QNA reported on 21 October. He outlined governance initiatives involving governments, industry, academia and civil society.
The concerns include targeting errors, miscalculation and unintended escalation, particularly where systems lack transparency. Human oversight of the use of force was presented as an international governance challenge, beyond the development of technical capabilities alone.
