UNICEF said 351 children had been killed in Gaza since the October 2025 ceasefire announcement, according to a statement reported by QNA on 22 October 2026.
Regional director Edouard Beigbeder reported eight children killed and twenty injured in the preceding six days. He called for protection and accountability, warning that damaged health services also obstruct survivors’ physical and psychological recovery.
What needs assessments add
A separate UNICEF assessment published in May 2026 surveyed 2,071 households with children by telephone between 21 December and 15 January. It examined health, education, water and protection needs. This is background on survivors’ needs, not independent confirmation of the October casualty count. The distinction matters: mortality reporting records lost lives, while household assessments help identify services needed by surviving children. UNICEF.
