Microsoft announced research on October 22 involving an AI system that gathers information progressively, selecting questions and tests before diagnosis. Its evaluation uses published cases and emergency-department data, according to the company’s original explanation.

The announcement separates benchmark findings from hospital evaluation: a planned prospective study with Beth Israel Deaconess will compare the system with physicians’ assessments. Current results therefore do not establish superiority in every clinical setting or suitability for self-diagnosis. The research tests the evidence-gathering pathway, not only the final answer.
