IEA asks members to review options for faster diesel supplies

The agency distinguishes existing commitments from any possible additional stock release.

The International Energy Agency called on members to review whether diesel supplies from stocks could be accelerated under existing commitments, and to consider the need for additional volumes, in a statement dated 11 October 2026.

The message came ahead of the Governing Board meeting on 15 October amid tighter global diesel market conditions. The agency said collective action initiated in March was still under way and provided a framework for near-term steps.

Delivering previously pledged supplies is different from agreeing to an additional release whose size and timing member countries would determine. The statement therefore does not establish a confirmed new collective release. It also does not provide a forecast for retail fuel prices.
