An International Monetary Fund official urged Britain to review spending and consider property and value-added tax reform, Petra reported on October 16, citing The Guardian.
Helge Berger of the IMF's European department discussed fiscal options ahead of Britain's budget, rather than relying on additional taxes on work.
The report placed the tax burden near 40% of gross domestic product. The comments are recommendations from an IMF official and should not be confused with government measures that have already been adopted.
