Asthma inhalers: why technique and an action plan matter

Asthma can cause variable coughing, wheezing and breathlessness, sometimes worse at night or with triggers. NHS guidance emphasises inhaler technique and treatment review when symptoms recur or disturb sleep.

Ask a clinician or pharmacist to watch your technique and keep a clear action plan. Inhaler types and purposes differ, so another person's puff instructions are not your prescription.

During an attack, follow your personal plan. Call emergency services if breathing worsens, prescribed reliever treatment fails or no inhaler is available. Arrange prompt follow-up even after recovery to reduce further attacks.
