Nepal is coordinating investments from the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework and the Pandemic Fund to strengthen health security, according to a WHO publication dated 15 October 2026.

The support helps expand influenza surveillance to other respiratory viruses. It also supports work to assess the completeness and timeliness of identifying and recording severe acute respiratory infections at 15 surveillance sites.

The efforts include generating evidence on disease burden and piloting avian-influenza surveillance among humans at two sites. These activities build detection and early-warning capacity; they do not announce a new pandemic in Nepal. Their value depends on sustained data collection and on using findings to inform health decisions.
