Iron-deficiency anaemia can cause fatigue, palpitations or breathlessness, but these symptoms are not specific to it. NHS guidance describes medical history and blood testing, with further investigation when the cause is unclear.

Buying iron is not the whole answer: heavy periods, gastrointestinal bleeding or pregnancy-related needs may be involved. Addressing the cause matters because continuing losses can undermine treatment.

Pulses, leafy vegetables and fortified foods contribute dietary iron, but food alone does not treat every case. Discuss supplements and follow-up rather than choosing arbitrary doses because you feel tired.
