WHO and EU support free infectious-disease care in Kunduz

An October UN report describes free infectious-disease services at Kunduz hospital, supported by WHO with EU funding. Patients from Kunduz and neighbouring provinces receive care for conditions including hepatitis, tuberculosis and acute watery diarrhoea.
Support began in April. The report explains how nearby free treatment can reduce costs for families and highlights female health workers’ role in making care more accessible to women. Service-use figures describe access to treatment, however; they do not by themselves establish that infections have declined throughout the region or measure every patient’s outcome.
