Prince Albert II opened a permanent GEBCO secretariat in Monaco on October 13 to coordinate global seabed mapping, according to an October 15 oceanographic commission report.

Monaco will fund its first three years. The team will support data sharing and funding partnerships. GEBCO's 2026 grid shows 28.7% of the ocean floor mapped to modern standards, leaving most of it still to be surveyed to that level.
