NASA selected 12 US institutions for a combined $12 million in research and technology support, according to its October 15 announcement.

Each institution can receive up to $1 million through M-STAR. Projects include robotics, terrain analysis, radiation-resistant materials and energy systems for extreme environments.

The programme connects technology development with practical opportunities for students and faculty, while strengthening institutions' ability to compete for future research funding supporting lunar, Martian and deep-space exploration.
