Osteoporosis can develop without pain until a fracture occurs. NHS guidance describes risk assessment using age, medical history and sometimes a bone-density scan; joint pain alone does not establish osteoporosis.

Reduced density does not always mean osteoporosis or inevitable progression. Results belong within an overall fracture-risk assessment, rather than acting as an isolated number that decides treatment.

Discuss prevention and treatment when risk factors apply. Appropriate activity, nutrition, vision checks and removing household trip hazards all matter. Preventing falls complements bone care; it does not replace recommended treatment.
