Type 2 diabetes symptoms: when to arrange a blood test

Persistent thirst, frequent urination, fatigue and unintended weight loss can prompt testing for type 2 diabetes. NHS guidance notes that symptoms may develop gradually and some people have none.
Similar symptoms do not determine diabetes type. Blood tests and clinical assessment establish the diagnosis, so an online checklist cannot substitute for evaluation, including when a child has symptoms.
Prediabetes means glucose is above normal but below the diagnostic threshold for diabetes; progression is not inevitable. Discuss follow-up, food and activity with your care team, particularly when diabetes runs in your family.
