Britain's Competition and Markets Authority has proposed designating Microsoft with strategic market status, Petra reported on October 16, citing The Times.
The case concerns the competitive effects of products including Word, Excel and Teams, alongside AI services such as Copilot. The designation could give the regulator wider tools to address conduct in the relevant market.
This is a regulatory proposal, rather than a final finding of wrongdoing. The report says a final decision is expected in February.
