A UN report presented on October 15 warned that neural data is moving beyond clinical settings, creating risks for privacy, freedom of thought and fair-trial protections.
It called for prohibitions on coercive and abusive applications, informed consent, oversight and stronger safeguards for sensitive data. The warning concerns possible uses of brain signals; it does not establish that consumer devices can reliably read a person’s thoughts.
